Groove Armada to headline Other Stage at Glastonbury

Just revealed that Groove Armada will be headlining at Glastonbury on the Other Stage.

Other acts believed to be appearing on the Other Stage include Massive Attack, Hot Chip and The Wombats.

Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset from 27-29 June with Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve set to headline. Other names on the bill include Dizzee Rascal, Jamie T, The Cribs and Leonard Cohen.

This is them playing at Exit Festival last year - totally incredible.

Due to various work commitments in London this summer, I've decided not to go abroad at all and put all my hard-earned dosh into a packed out festival season in the UK. I've come across a bit ofa problem however - I've found it quite difficult to find a clear calendar line-up of all the festivals I want to go to so I can avoid clashes and plan my summer.

Provokal & Bob Marley - True Love

This just in from Aussie born but UK-based hiphop artist Provokal. Provokal (real name Aaron Iselin) didn't enjoy the move much over to the UK and turned to poetry to express himself. This progressed into him developing his own rap-style and then competing in battles as "Provokal."

In December 2005, Provokal sent his demo into the offices of Broken Souls Productions, (Producers - ImZ & Neehi, Artists - Genesis Elijah, Lady Destiny, Dread MC), which landed on the desk of ImZ. Although ImZ wasn’t too impressed with the overall demo, he saw potential and admired Provokal’s attitude.

Since then Provokal has excelled in his art form, which has opened up many doors; Provokal has performed along side many respected artist such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Lethal Bizzle, Klashnekoff, Skinnyman amongst others. In 2007 Provokal performed on Rodney P & Skitz’ BBC 1Xtra radio show when Rodney P complimented Provokal on his lyrics and delivery by stating "You have heavy, heavy, heavy vernacular!”

Already having had enjoyed airplay on national radio (BBC Radio 1) and having had recorded a track with the likes of Cypress Hill, at their studio in LA, Provokal is going from strength to strength. Get this -

A great new sound being showcased over on Audiodrums.com where it seems the author has teamed up with Jef Vandertogt to release their first six track EP under the name "The Long Division."

Have a look at their Myspace (www.myspace.com/thelongdivisionband). They describe it as a mixture between Hot Chip, The Postal Service, The Knife and Royksopp, so it's looking good already. Coming to a Skins soundtrack near you no doubt! I think there's some Ladytron in there too.

First up this Sunday evening we've got South Londoner Boy 8 Bit who's shareprice is tipped to rocket this year with a much vaunted track "Fogbank" which is featuring on hundreds of mixtapes and charts around the place. It's an infectious blend of dubstep, hiphop and electro. If you haven't got it already - get it here (it's now available on Beatport, iTunes etc. so here's a low quality version for you)

Well I just came across this guy (although I believe he once played at a night my mate ran called Traffik @ The Bongo Club) and have just been totally captivated by his latest mix. Having been worrying about all number of things all day, I've finally been able to sit down and listen to 2 hours of music which has totally captivated me and relaxed me at the same time. His absorbing styl e takes in all sorts of gently throbbing house and minimal techno, it's a joy to listen to and I'd encourage this man to get out and about playing his heart out.

In his own words taken from his wonderfully wacky YouTube channel he's "a dj/producer from Edinburgh trying to help wake up the 85% who are mentally deaf, dumb, and blind to the truth."

Secondly it's High Eight (real name Neil Briggs), who started out as one half of Future Funk Squad with Glen Nicholls. As a DJ, High Eight has played across the UK with the likes of Rennie Pilgrem, Chris Carter, Freestylers, and Stanton Warriors, and internationally at events such as the Love Parade in San Francisco, and Earthdance in LA. In 2006 Neil made his Breakspoll debut playing a set at the legendary Fabric club in London.

The mix is called "Back To Mine ish" and showcases some of the more chilled breaks sounds out there.

Glade looks to be another storming line-up on the breaks front, with the Breaksday tent alone presenting (amongst others) Aquasky, Beat Assassins, Ben & Lex, Bodysnatchers, Ctrl Z, Drummatic Twins, Elite Force, High Eight, Atomic Hooligan, Madox, Noisia, Plump DJs and Stanton Warriors. It's the only dedicated breaks tent at any festival in the world which runs for a full three days, and it's a must on the to-do list for this summer! You can buy tickets here for £125.

Meanwhile closer to home, the man behind R.I.P. (a predominantly student night which has seen Tom Neville, FC Kahuna, Hostage, Vicarious Bliss and Hannah Holland grace the decks at Studio 24, The Caves, and Liquid Rooms over the past year or so) is going out with a huge BANG after booking megastars The Freestylers for his final bash on May 17th at The Caves. Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey, aka The Freestylers, have been involved into the dance scene since the late 80’s both as DJs and producers. Cantor has also recorded as Cut n’ Paste, 2 Fat Buddhas and Fresca All Stars, while Harvey has worked with Rebel MC and Definition of Sound.

They're also solely responsible for getting me into breaks with their fantastic album Raw as Fuck (which you can buy here) I saw them first at the now defunct Hi:Fi festival near Winchester (used to be Homelands) alongside Scratch Perverts and Plumps. Breaktism of fire!

Dr Fish Star Wars Extravaganza

Dr. Fish, surf bum and West Country scratching enthusiast has just come to my attention through the wonderful forums at Brap FM (be sure to check them out, wicked shows and good forums for the chitchat).

Since winning the 2007 D joust competition, he's been lucky enough to play along side artists such as Far Too Loud, Slyde, Vandal, Eric Morrillo, Janette Slack, Chicken Lips, and the Loose Cannons , playing at venues including Ministry Of Sound, The Whitehouse, and Herbal (so he's a big cookie, alright?)

There's free mixes available on his blog, one of which I've helpfully linked to right here, cos I think it's awesome and showcases many of the tracks I've been loving over the past few months.
But the iceing on the cake is that he's just produced this hilarious breaks track for all Star Wars lovers out there, constructed almost entirely from samples featured in the films. It's the first track on his Myspace - so fire it up!

Just thought I'd give everyone here a heads up to Hilltop Hoods

They're an Aussie hip hop outfit comprising Pressure MC, Suffa MC and DJ Debris and they're seriously big news out there. First heard them on a nightbus through Poland from Lithuania couple of years ago (on an iPod, they weren't on the bus!) Really good stuff, especially Nosebleed Section and The Hard Road.

On the Aussie hiphop front, also check out The Funkoars (http://www.myspace.com/themotherfuckingfunkoars) who've got some similar tracks. Lots of funk/soul influences on the instrumental side, with that kind of honest lyrical attitude that characterises alot of British hiphop.

Blair Harrower - Free Deep/ Tech-house Mix

Hi, here's 3 of the best housey electro tunes I've got off Palmsout recently, thought you'd like to have a look at them. I haven't linked to them directly (these are all zshare links) but check out Palmsout if you like this stuff, it's a cool site.

First up it's a Jackson Five remix by Chew Fu. He's one of the most prolific remixers/producers in the U.S. at the moment and he's delivered with this aptly named "Big Room" remix of a familiar J5 tune. He's also been in touch offering Noise Porn some UK exclusives with his new tracks (we're excited!!)

Right: Speculum, a rather irreverent outfit from the UK who were recently confused by the question "What kind of music do you make?" by IDJ Magazine. It roughly falls under techy tech-house techno? Maybe? Whatever, it's pretty good.

They're called W Productions and they're email about themselves explains that they're still making this stuff in their bedrooms, but to me it's sounding great already! They've put some stuff out on a local label called Royal Tracks but if you wanna hear their stuff either download below or check Myspace.

Wow - so word just in from Barcelona about two blokes causing a stir under their producing name The Amplid. Some big releases coming in the future and got a good gut feeling about them just judging from their Myspace

They recently played at the Record Playerz Club at Glasgow School of Art but be sure not to miss them if they come again!

New tracks coming soon on UK label Prestel Records and a Spanish label called Tracey Recordings, watch out here.

Didn't realise how much stuff I'd be getting in my inbox after just a few postings about this new blog on some forums, shit man! Anyway, standing out from the crowd this evening as a young chappy who calls himself Osmo. He's sent over this great mix for you all to download.

He's originally from Leeds but now studying at Manchester Uni. With a background in breaks he's branched out into electro over the five years he's been DJing. Winner of the Warehouse Project DJ competition in December, he had the pleasure of supporting Annie Mac at New Years and is set to support Mike from the Beastie Boys at the Paradise Factory in Manchester this Thursday.

Aztech Breaks in top 100 clubs worldwide

Apparently our friends at Aztech Breaks (looking rather youthful above!) have been voted 99th best club in the world according to DJ Mag. Nice one!

Aztech Breaks, probably one of the best nights in the city if only for it's 100% devotion to breaks and it's incredible venue at The Caves, guarantees good time party antics and some epic basslines. Huge thumbs up from us!

In club news, Nightmoves (check their Myspace here) are playing at We Are Electric... on 16th April. It's free before midnight, £ 2 after midnight and free all night long for members (why can't all clubs be like that?!!) and promises to be a great night.
